Professor Lin Zanbiao's passion for wild orchid originated from the research stage of the Department of Botany at National Taiwan University. In 1971, he became involved in plant collection activities for the publication of "Flora of Taiwan" (Flora of Taiwan). In the past 50 years, Dr. Lin's relationship with wild orchids has been divided into three stages: the first stage (1971 to 1981), he studied for a master's degree, and then served in the Forestry Experiment Institute of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, during which he discovered many new species of wild orchids. Orchid, and published three volumes of "Taiwan Orchid Plants" between 1975 and 1987; in the second stage, since 1981, he went abroad to obtain a Ph.D. In the past 25 years, his research interests have turned to forestry and plant physiology, and he has nothing to do with wild orchids; the last stage began in about 2005, and he returned to the field of wild orchids due to the lead of friends. Before retiring from National Taiwan University in 2017, he had fully devoted himself to the research of wild orchid, engaged in writing, drawing and publishing, etc. He has now formed a wild orchid information center with him as the core, and he will continue to contribute his research on wild orchid in the future. opinion.
